Olfology ("we", "us", "our") operates olfology.com as a research and comparison archive for perfumes. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you register we collect your email address, a chosen username, and an encrypted password. Optional profile fields you add are stored with your account.
• Community contributions. Suggestions, votes, reviews, questions, and reports you submit are stored alongside a hashed identifier so we can prevent abuse.
• Usage data. We collect standard log data (IP address, user agent, referrer, pages viewed) and product analytics (via PostHog) to understand how the site is used and to improve it.
• Cookies and local storage. We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences (theme, text size, recently viewed items), and measure aggregate usage.

How we use information

• To operate the site, authenticate users, and secure the platform against abuse.
• To respond to submissions, moderation reports, and support requests.
• To measure aggregate performance and improve content, search, and features.
• To send transactional messages (verification, password resets, account notices).

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share limited data with service providers that host and operate the site (database and auth, product analytics, email delivery, CDN). Public contributions (suggestions, reviews, Q&A) are displayed publicly with your username.

Your choices

• You can update or delete your account from your account page.
• You can opt out of analytics by enabling "Do Not Track" or a tracker-blocking extension.
• You can request access, correction, or deletion of your data by emailing us (see below).

Data retention

We keep account and contribution data for as long as your account is active. Aggregate analytics may be retained after deletion in a form that no longer identifies you.

Children

Olfology is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
