And now the whole town is sleeping. The last patron wandered off hours ago, book bag on her shoulder. Shiny black umbrella like an open bat wing, disappearing in the cool mist of night. The golden morning now replaced by golden lamps in dimmed rooms, glowing shadows upon weathered stacks. The coffee long since brewed, remnants stain the pot. Now is a whiskey glass— shot neat, caramel-toned, glowing. Some more work to do, ink-stained fingertips and paper cuts, open window in the good room— the one with the old, dusty manuscripts and antique leather bound facsimiles. The night blooming jasmine catches the wind, blows in, moves your hair. The ghostly voices beckon you closer to the shelves, whispering. Just one poem, your favorite, then off to sleep. Clean the coffee pot in the morning and brew another. Night in the Library is the companion to my scent Morning in the Library (found here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/969089074/morning-in-the-library-perfume-caramel) The librarian winds down after hours, opens a window, and flips through the good books. I wanted this scent to smell brown and polished like mahogany book shelves, like ink and tired eyes, like a smooth glass of hidden whiskey, a gold desk lamp, a shadow passing a wall of books, an open window on a cool spring night. Perhaps the librarian lives next door or even upstairs. There is a sense of home, of a comfortable sleep not so far away. Suede, mahogany, sandalwood, fresh mint, black ink, caramel-colored whiskey, golden honey comb, and night-blooming jasmine.
