Ube Malasada - Hawaiian cuisine is a melting pot of local and imported flavors. An adaptation from the Portuguese, Hawaiian m alasadas, are yeast-leavened doughnuts enriched with eggs, butter, and often evaporated or fresh milk. After frying, they are rolled in cinnamon sugar. Though a traditional malasada is ungarnished, in the islands they can be found with all manner of filling including coconut flavored haupia pudding or rich purple ube custard. Notes : Fresh fried soft doughnuts filled with creamy purple ube and coconut haupia sprinkled with sugar and the slightest of cinnamon.
