"Young Gillian Owens: What are you doing? Young Sally Owens: Summoning up a true love spell called Amas Veritas. He can flip pancakes in the air. He'll be marvelously kind. And his favorite shape will be a star. And he'll have one green eye and one blue. Young Gillian Owens: Thought you never wanted to fall in love. Young Sally Owens: That's the point. The guy I dreamed of doesn't exist. And if he doesn't exist I'll never die of a broken heart.” -Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic Amas Veritas! Oh! The truth of love! True love! How romantic and how frightening at the same time. A kind of magic that has a will of its own, that cannot be controlled, only endured. No matter how much we might wish to resist, it may still find us, make us dizzy, make us risk takers, and shape us into who we're really meant to be. Thank goodness we have Practical Magic to prepare us (thanks Alice Hoffman!) So, here's a scent inspired by one of the loveliest, coziest stories we've ever read (and seen!). A bright and unruly— perhaps even reckless burst of grapefruit and blood orange arrive like sharp, cackling laughter and midnight margaritas in a witch's kitchen. We then settle into a soft veil of baby powder drifting in, delicate and nostalgic, like lace curtains stirring in a sea-breezed house. Geraniums bloom at the heart, green and wild, conjuring in overgrown gardens that whisper incantations to stubborn and resilient women and girls alike. And beneath it all, moss and patchouli like old spells planted deep in the earth wait. The earth spiked by a splash of bourbon, creates a scent like a slow-burning candle and reminder that love can intoxicate as much as it can heal the soul.
