One of my favorite flowers to smell in the high heat of a Western Pennsylvania August is the intoxicating bloom of the butterfly bushes that serve as a backdrop to my front porch garden. The sweet, blossom-like blooms release their most intense aroma in the scorching August heat, and I cherish how their sweet and spicy aroma quietly wafts in through my open windows in the evening. During the daytime, they are busily buzzing with hungry butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. This fragrance is a soliflore that brings to life the heady, fragrant buddleia blooms of summer, with green, stemmy nuances contributing an herbaceous realism.
