Silver Hoof

Indie

I’m a big lover of rocks and gemstones for many reasons, but one of the most special reasons comes from youth and the vision of seeing them sit in freshly fallen snow. As a child, I was very serious. My imagination was vivid, yet I could never completely step over that threshold of real to complete fantasy. I was weary of everything- too suspicious, too serious, too worried, and only wanted the truth. That's when my grandmother would come in, completely banish my pessimism, and tell me tales of the fantastic that made me want to dream and believe in magical things. One such tale was of Silver Hoof, the little enchanted deer (or goat to some). Silver Hoof looked like a regular deer, aside from one silver hoof that when stamped on the ground, produced a sparkling gemstone. The more Silver Hoof stamped or pawed at the ground, the more gemstones would appear! I was born in winter, and every year it seemed, without fail, there would be a huge snowstorm. One year, there was just too much snow and my 8th birthday party had to be postponed. I of course was crushed, and sulked around the house like a slug feeling sorry for myself. Then Silver Hoof showed up. I remember my grandmother yelling to "Come look! Come see!" and from the kitchen window I saw the deer eating grain, and there trailing near her were little holes in the snow. I thought I saw a glint of purple in one, but it was soon covered with falling flakes. We went outside after the deer left and there in the holes were stones- amazonite and quartz, amethyst and obsidian. Some I recognized as the stones we bought at a gem show, and others new - gifts for my birthday. "See, Silver Hoof brought you gifts. She wants you to have a happy birthday!” And I did. So this scent is inspired by winter snow falling on gemstones, my grandmother’s fresh-baked cinnamon bread, the fresh cut red carnations that sat on the old coal stove all winter long, and Silver Hoof who made my cold, gloomy winter birthday shiny, bright, and warm. Scent notes- Top: Cinnamon bread, nutmeg, soot Middle: cocoa, carnation, peppermint, Bottom: patchouli, orchid whipped cream
