Roasted chestnut and dry cacao wrapped in rose — a gourmand with no sugar in sight. Composed by Marie Salamagne for the Dries Van Noten fragrance collection and released in 2022, Soie Malaquais takes its name from the Quai Malaquais in Paris and its character from the Belgian designer's fabric obsession. Blackcurrant and bergamot open it almost fresh, then chestnut and cacao take over: warm and starchy rather than sweet, with a powdery rose running through the middle like a thread of silk. Reviewers describe the chestnut as steamed rather than candied — nutty, soft, faintly dusty — and the whole thing as unusually textural for a designer release.
