The Great Work Alchemists believed that nothing could be transformed until it first surrendered its former shape. What appeared to be the making of gold was, in truth, the making of the soul. These three fragrances follow that ancient path: dissolution, transformation, and rebirth. They are not meant to be understood all at once, but discovered one stage at a time. Great transformation begins in darkness. Nigredo, the Black Work, is the stage in which all things return to their essence. Whether by flame or by time, what can no longer endure is stripped away until only truth remains. To the alchemists, this was never an act of destruction, but of preparation. Putrescence and decay become fertile, ashes become soil. Fire and decay speak the same language: both return us to what cannot be destroyed. Notes - blackened earth, charred embers, rotting botanicals, smoked herbs
