Field Study

The afternoon sun breaks through the clouds in slow ribbons, warming the air and turning the landscape a hazy shade of gold. Long grasses bend with the breeze at the edge of the road. Rows of olive trees stretch across the hillsides, silver leaves flickering in the light. A faint thread of lavender carried on the wind from somewhere farther down the hill. The air moves differently out here in Tuscany. Open, warm, alive with quiet detail. I drive with the top down, the wind still cool against my face as the spring sun begins to remember her warmth.
