This fragrance is inspired by the Serapeum of Alexandria. Made with the scents of cypriol, bergamot, vetiver, juniper, balsam, benzoin, cedar, clove, rosemary, sandalwood, patchouli, amber, vanilla, and musk. Woody, incense-y, ancient and mysterious, and very potent — a little goes a long way! Reminiscent of dusty papyrus scrolls and arcane rituals. The perfect combination for honoring the legacy of books and libraries, and feeling a connection to the past! Fragrance Note(s): Cypriol • Bergamot • Vetiver • Juniper • Balsam • Benzoin • Cedar • Clove • Rosemary • Sandalwood • Pathouli • Amber • Vanilla • Musk Scent Categories: Woody • Incense-y • Ancient and Mysterious Shrouded in mystery, the Serapeum of Alexandria in the Ptolemaic Kingdom was an ancient Greek temple built by Ptolemy III Euergetes, and dedicated to Serapis (a god with the combined aspects of Osiris and Apis in a humanized form, who was made the protector of Alexandria, Egypt). It has also been suggested that there was worship of the goddess of health, marriage, and wisdom Isis. It was considered the daughter institution of the Library of Alexandria, and for much of the late fourth century AD it was probably the largest collection of books in the city. In the 370s and 380s, the Serapeum was still a major pilgrimage site for pagans. It remained a fully functioning temple, and had classrooms for philosophers to teach in. The Serapeum was destroyed by Christian citizens in 391 CE.
